General Summary: 

Provides day-to-day monitoring of contracted janitorial services on campus by meeting with the contractor's onsite personnel, completing work orders and performing periodic reviews and inspections. Coordinates activities associated with final clean-up following the completion of projects, coordinates the activities of contracted movers and supports the Facilities Department's involvement in special events on campus.

Examples of Duties: 

  • Monitors first shift contracted janitorial services by holding daily meetings with the contractor's onsite Account   Manager, acting as a liaison to review and resolve customer complaints, inspecting and reporting on the cleanliness of campus facilities.
  • Completes Monthly review with cleaning contractor as part of the performance-based contract incentive program.
  • Assists in the coordination of cleaning activities associated with projects.
  • Reviews and updates the listing of spaces on “restricted” cleaning schedules.
  • Reviews and tracks janitorial services contractor's weekly payroll sheets.
  • Provides oversight and coordination for contracted services, including pest control, window cleaning, moving and multiple door repair vendors including roll up doors, sliding glass doors, and hanging doors.
  • Initiates and tracks work orders for cleaning and/or repairs.
  • Attends weekly event coordination meetings and initiates all pertinent Facilities-related work orders.
  • Maintains the supervisor's key box list and issues service keys from the supervisor's key box to staff and/or vendors as necessary.
  • Maintains the Facilities Department inventory of two-way radio equipment.
  • Orders materials and supplies including carpet runners at doorways.
  • Manages janitorial supplies and coordinates orders with contractor’s onsite account manager.

Qualifications: 

  • Must have a minimum of five years of full-time, or equivalent part-time experience in janitorial and/or maintenance services.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of janitorial services.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision.
  • Ability to plan flow and coordinate that work with other Facilities Department units and other university staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and the ability to communicate expectations to staff in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to prepare reports on work performed and supplies used in performing that work.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Ability to work in cramped or confined spaces.
  • Ability to access spaces via ladders, stairways, scaffolding, aerial or scissor lift, catwalks, etc. without restriction.
  • Ability to make decisions and react quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, specifications, drawings, contracts, technical manuals, etc.
