General Summary: 

The Mental Health Educator will participate in an interdisciplinary team to support the mission the University Health Services.  The incumbent will establish a supportive environment for student success through addressing induvial and population-based health behaviors and will develop and implement evidence-based data-driven educational programs, events, messages and services to address college health topics and other emerging health issues based on available data sources.

The incumbent will also assist clinical staff with referrals to healthcare providers and social service agencies.

 

Examples of Duties: 

  • Develop, coordinate implement market and evaluate creative health education and health promotion programs.
  • Communicate and advocate effectively for mental health education.
  • Provide supervision to student employees to support their leaning and ensure successful program outcomes and goals.
  • Participate in new student orientation and student recruitment events.
  • Assess student strengths and needs including change readiness.
  • Help develop, identify, implement and improve patient education material and other tools
  • that encourage healthy decisions.
  • Develop, monitor and assess health communication interventions and policies.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with area health and social service providers.
  • Work with clinical staff to support referrals to care and services on campus and in the community.
  • Document activities in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

PRE-REQUISITES:

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in education or social/health sciences.

Certificate of Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred but not required.

Experience with social services case management preferred.

Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Able to listen well, accurately communicate ideas, and to work well in a team.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office required

 

Certification and Licensure:

CPR certification
