General Summary: 

The Project Coordinator within the Center for Social Development and Education (http://www.csde.umb.edu), will manage and organize the daily operations of an ongoing national evaluation of Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools. This school-based social inclusion intervention brings students with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities together through sports, leadership, and school-wide engagement activities. This is a large-scale, national evaluation examining program implementation strategies and successes, program impacts on social inclusion and social and emotional learning among students, and school-wide cultural change around inclusion and attitudes toward disability.

Under the supervision of the Director of Program Evaluation, the Project Coordinator will be responsible for scheduling and coordinating daily project activities; organizing data collection, entry, and maintenance; performing data analysis and interpreting results; and writing reports and papers summarizing evaluation findings and presenting findings to stakeholders. The Project Coordinator will serve as the liaison with collaborating states and participating schools; will assist the Principal Investigator(s) in the training and supervision of support personnel; and is actively involved in the development of journal articles, special reports, and summary reports for funding agencies/organizations, and conference proposals and presentations.

Examples of Duties: 

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the evaluation, including correspondence with states and schools, scheduling evaluation activities, supervising the work performed by Research Assistants assigned to provide the daily research and evaluation support surrounding the project, and overseeing resource allocation and workloads to move the various evaluation components forward;
  • Draw on theories, frameworks, concepts, and the literature on youth development, social and emotional learning, social identity, and peer networks to assist in designing evaluation methodology and protocols for the various evaluation components;
  • Responsible for the coordination of site visits/observations at schools, as well as student and teacher interviews and online surveys of students, teachers, and program staff; oversee the development of survey materials, interview protocols, or observation protocols and checklists; track and monitor evaluation activities and data collection;
  • Oversee the data management system established for the collection, coding, and analyzing of quantitative and qualitative data within and across participating schools and states;
  • Responsible for training school staff on evaluation protocols and participation requirements, including delivering virtual and/or in-person professional development courses for schools participating in certain evaluation activities; develop materials for schools to use while participating in evaluation activities, such as survey administration guidelines, activity cards for use on sport teams, etc.;
  • Lead the development of the final evaluation report(s) submitted to the funding agencies/organizations, including the Department of Education; assist in the preparation of other written materials, such as manuscripts, conference proposals, blog posts, etc.;
  • Maintain correspondence with pertinent stakeholders in the projects, including local-, state-, and national-level constituents, especially school personnel and state directors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

Master’s Degree in Psychology, Educational Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Sociology or a closely related field and a minimum of 1 year of experience coordinating and/or managing projects in a non-laboratory setting is required. A Bachelor’s Degree in one of the fields above and 3+ years of coordination/management experience can be substituted for the required educational and work experience. 

Experience conducting research and/or program evaluation, preferably within the education system, is required. Experience supervising the work of others is required. Data analysis experience (both qualitative and quantitative) and experience using analysis software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, NVivo, Atlas.ti) is required. Prior publishing experience and/or experience presenting at a regional/national conference is required. The incumbent will be required to travel, both locally and nationally. A valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of issues surrounding social inclusion of students with disabilities and youth programming;
  • Knowledge of social and emotional learning, positive youth development, or other frameworks for understanding youth social development;
  • Knowledge of and ability to collect data through virtual (e.g., Zoom), telephone, and/or in-person interviews;
  • Knowledge of survey scale development or measurement design;
  • Experience conducting survey research, especially in schools;
  • Experience with observational data collection;

  • Knowledge of and ability to monitor large-scale data collection and databases;
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team;
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in prioritizing tasks;
  • Ability to write educational reports involving project data;
  • Ability to work on a team to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position;
  • Strong written communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with both internal and external partners
  • Strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail;

This is an exempt union position. This is a grant funded position with a current end date of September 30, 2022, subject to renewal contingent on funding and university needs.
