Job Description

The Department of Nursing in the Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences (MCNHS) at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning September 1, 2027.

This position offers the opportunity to join a diverse community of scholars whose research is grounded in collaboration and seeks to advance health equity across local and global settings. The successful candidate will benefit from an established culture of collaboration and strong research infrastructure while building an independent program of scholarship. The role is designed to advance the Department’s research mission and enhance the education of undergraduate and graduate nursing students.

 

 

Our Scholarship

Nursing scholarship at UMass Boston is grounded in partnership, equity, and impact. Our faculty conduct research where health is shaped and delivered, collaborating with communities, health systems, and policymakers to address pressing health challenges locally and globally. We welcome applicants whose scholarship aligns with or expands our strengths in areas such as, aging and gerontology, maternal and child health, mental and behavioral health, community-engaged research, and clinically focused science, including cardiovascular health, diabetes, and oncology.

 

 

What You Will Bring

Required

  • An earned research doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in nursing or a related field
  • Eligibility for RN licensure in Massachusetts
  • A research agenda and a clear trajectory toward an independent program of scholarship

Preferred

  • Completion of a postdoctoral fellowship
  • Peer-reviewed, data-based publications
  • Teaching experience in higher education

 

 

What We Offer

The Manning College and its Office of Research provide sustained internal and external mentoring for faculty, including structured support for grant proposal and manuscript preparation, alongside a wide range of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborative research opportunities.

Our faculty collaborate with major academic and medical institutions in and around Boston, including the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, UMass Chan Medical School, Boston Children’s Hospital, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as well as with community, public, and private health care agencies across the region. The National Cancer Institute funds the University of Massachusetts Boston–Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center partnership; this longstanding collaboration has enabled faculty at both institutions to strengthen and extend partnerships for research on health disparities, PhD training, and community outreach.

 

 

Our Programs

The BS, MS, and DNP nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The MS and DNP programs prepare Family Nurse Practitioners, Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioners and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners. The PhD program focuses on population health and health policy.

Across all programs, our teaching addresses health across the life course among diverse populations, with a sustained focus on improving health equity for populations at risk for health care disparities. For more information, please visit www.umb.edu/academics/cnhs.

UMass Boston expects to pay within an approximate range between $100,800 and $143,300 for this position.  

The specific pay for this position will be determined by the University based on the consideration of all relevant factors when and if it decides to extend an offer of employment.
