The College of Management at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in marketing / sport business, beginning from September 1, 2024.

Candidates must have completed, or must be in the final stages of completing, a doctoral degree in Marketing or Sport Management, or a Ph.D. in a closely related field, prior to the date of appointment, ABDs who will complete the doctorate by no later than August 31, 2024 will be considered. Given the strategic direction of the college, we especially welcome applications with a special focus on AI in research or teaching.  

The responsibilities of this position include academic research, teaching, and service.  Faculty members must demonstrate the potential to conduct scholarly research and publish in high-quality peer-reviewed academic journals in areas related to marketing or sports business. They must also demonstrate potential and commitment to effective teaching in graduate and undergraduate courses in on-campus and online modalities and will be expected to engage in meaningful service to the college, university, academic profession, and community at large.

Specifically, the candidate for this position will play a significant role in developing the undergraduate concentration (and potentially a graduate program) in Sport Business. Responsibilities include developing/teaching undergraduate and graduate courses/programs in marketing and/or sport business areas. The candidate will be expected to interact effectively with a culturally diverse population of students, colleagues, and constituents (e.g., mentoring students and collaborating with colleagues in other disciplines and serving on committees for enrollment, recruiting, and marketing). Further, the candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to ongoing research productivity and contribution to the academic profession (e.g., serving as a reviewer for journals, presenting at academic conferences and engagement in other academic roles).

The College of Management (CM) is AACSB-accredited and is the only public Business School in Boston. CM’s mission is to cultivate the next generation of business and community leaders by providing accessible and exceptional learning experiences, backed by cutting-edge intellectual contributions and professional engagement. The College offers two bachelor’s degrees, five master’s degrees that can be completed on campus, online, or in a combination, and a PhD in Business Administration which consists of the Finance track, the Organizations and Social Change (OSC) track, and the  Information Systems for Data Science and Management track. Total enrollment in the College has grown rapidly to about 2,500 students. The College has a Center for Collaborative Leadership, a Digital Media Lab, an Entrepreneurship Center, a Center for Sustainable Enterprise and Regional Competitiveness, a Financial Services Forum, and participates in cross-college initiatives such as the Sustainable Solutions Lab and the Venture Development Center. Numerous opportunities for research and collaboration exist with faculty, businesses, governmental agencies, institutes, and research centers in the university system and in the greater Boston area. The region is a global hub of innovation and expertise in a number of sectors, including financial services, clean tech, healthcare, life sciences, education, and software development.
