UMass Boston invites applications for a clinical lecturer who will hold a full-time 12-month non-tenure track faculty position in the Department of Nursing. Our programs focus on health in urban populations of all ages and target improving health equity in populations at risk for healthcare disparities. The position is designed for doctoral prepared faculty members who will provide direct didactic and clinical instruction for students in the online Accelerated BSN program. Responsibilities include participation in classroom, clinical, simulation, and laboratory-based learning. Candidates will be expected to employ a variety of teaching strategies in the classroom and clinical settings to promote clinical judgement and achievement of course and clinical objectives with diverse student learners. The normal teaching assignment for twelve-month clinical faculty at UMass Boston is twelve (12) 3-credit bearing (36 credits) courses distributed across the year.

Expectations:

  • Demonstrates support of the mission, vision, and values of the University and College of Nursing;
  • Assists students in the application of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and specific clinical competencies in the clinical setting;
  • Effectively uses and is knowledgeable of current e-learning technologies;
  • Develops and implements methods to evaluate the achievement of course learning objectives, including the construction of unit exams;
  • Effectively communicates with students, faculty, and staff;
  • Facilitates review sessions for knowledge and practice assessments throughout the curriculum;
  • Evaluates the clinical performance of students using formative and summative outcomes assessments based on:  clinical evaluation criteria, clinical assignment evaluation methods (concept maps, papers and presentations, and other assignments), and patient care competencies;
  • Collaborates with relevant administrative and support faculty for assistance and coordination with development of remediation plans when students are not meeting course or clinical objectives;
  • Is familiar with specific course learning objectives and requirements, required clinical experiences, clinical clearances, and CNHS and university policies and procedures;
  • Participation in the ABSN Orientation and Mentoring Program
  • Collaborates with the nurse manager, staff and nurse educator to provide students with experiences that facilitate attainment of course and clinical learning objectives;
  • Participates in ongoing faculty development programs;
  • Attends program, department and clinical faculty meetings;
  • Participates in curriculum evaluation and development;
  • Participates in the clinical faculty orientation and other required programs and offerings at the assigned clinical agency to orient and maintain institutional credentialing;
  • Although this is primarily an online program, there will be some instances when faculty may be asked to attend on campus events and programs.
  • Remains current in theory, scholarship, and best practices in didactic and clinical aspects within a specific nursing practice area;
  • Demonstrates service to the CNHS through participation on committees as needed;
  • Agrees to additional responsibilities mutually determined;

Qualifications:

  • Must be eligible for RN and/or advanced practice licensure in Massachusetts.
  • Teaching experience in higher education is required and experience with online teaching is preferred; teaching experience in other settings will be considered.
  • Theoretical and clinical expertise in nursing education.
  • Experience with teaching using multiple e-learning platforms.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with peer-reviewed, practice-oriented scholarship.
  • We are seeking candidates who will strengthen our college and teaching initiatives in the Accelerated option of the Undergraduate Nursing program. 
  • Familiarity with concept-based learning is preferred. 
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, assessment, evaluation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Current CPR, CORI, and other documentation as required.
