Examples of Duties: 

The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will play a key role in a project to develop and apply new methods for phylogenetic analysis in the laboratory of Dr. Liam Revell at the University of Massachusetts Boston.

  • Assist the laboratory Principal Investigator (PI) in new and on-going research projects;
  • Develop, apply and disseminate new methods for phylogenetic analysis, which may involve new theoretical research, computer programming and software support;
  • Assist with training and monitoring undergraduate and graduate students;
  • Assist with writing of scientific publications and grants;
  • Participate in other departmental activities such as seminars and journal clubs;
  • May assist in various training programs, including graduate seminars and workshops, both on and off campus;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


PhD in Evolutionary Biology, Computational Biology, Biomathematics or a closely related field is required. Extensive training and experience in one or more of the following areas is required:  phylogeny method development or application in software; computational biology; mathematical modeling in ecology and/or evolution.  Broad training in evolutionary biology preferred.  Prior teaching or mentoring experience preferred.    

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Strong record-keeping skills.

Grant-funded position for 1 year renewed for an additional year contingent on successful progress.
