Job Description

The Philosophy Department at the University of Massachusetts Boston (https://www.umb.edu/academics/cla/philosophy) invites applications for a full-time Non-Tenure Track Lecturer position starting September 1, 2023. This position includes full benefits and is a one-year, renewable contract to teach four courses per semester  (http://www.fsu.umb.edu/content/non-tenure-track-faculty-lecturers). Contract renewal and promotion is solely based on teaching and relevant service; there is no expectation of research contributions in evaluating performance. However, Non-Tenure Track faculty play a prominent role in the Philosophy Department, often contributing to its intellectual life.

Requirements

Applicants must have a PhD in Philosophy by September 2023. Successful candidates will have more than a year’s teaching experience, evidence of teaching excellence, and the ability to teach Phil 100: Introduction to Philosophy, Phil 108: Moral and Social Problems, and a 100-level reasoning course. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching a diverse student population (in terms of race, ethnicity, age, language, and economic background). Applications from members of groups under-represented in the discipline are strongly encouraged.

Application instructions

Applicants must submit the following materials online to PageUp: a cover letter, a CV, a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi (including a syllabus for a reasoning course), student evaluations, and two letters of recommendation, at least one of which addresses teaching. Candidates may also submit other evidence of teaching excellence, such as student letters, teaching awards, or other relevant materials. Review of applications will begin on March 27, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled. For more information, please contact Steven Levine at steven.levine@umb.edu
