We are seeking an outstanding candidate to join our faculty in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Massachusetts Boston, beginning Spring 2024. The candidate will assume a 9-month, lecturer non-tenure track appointment (one-year appointment) in the Department of Counseling and School Psychology to teach primarily clinical supervision courses in the master’s and doctoral programs in mental health counseling and counseling psychology, respectively, and will collaborate with the University Health Services Counseling Center to supervise counseling psychology doctoral students in providing counseling services. The Department of Counseling and School Psychology houses two APA accredited Ph.D. programs in Counseling Psychology and School Psychology, MPCAC-accredited masters programs in School Counseling and Mental Health Counseling, NASP-accredited masters and Ed.S. programs in School Psychology, a graduate certificate program in Applied Behavior Analysis, and a B.A. in Sport Leadership and Administration. The Counseling Psychology Ph.D. program prepares professionals in a scientist-practitioner model and has been accredited since 2015. The Department of Counseling and School Psychology provides a dynamic environment for faculty and students to engage in nationally recognized research, especially in areas related to equity issues, systems-level change, LGBTQ health and wellness, social justice, transnational, human rights, and global perspectives. We seek candidates with teaching and clinical experience counseling socio-culturally diverse populations and who demonstrate a commitment to serving students from minoritized backgrounds. Additionally, we seek candidates whose teaching and clinical/supervisory practices display a comprehensive understanding of healthcare inequities; the impact of systemic and structural racism and discrimination on mental health; and the ways that racial and gender oppression intersect with health care access and equity, psychological supports and/or prevention and intervention efforts.

The candidate would collaborate with the UHS Counseling Center as core staff, along with a staff of social workers, psychologists, and a psychiatrist, whom provide high-quality mental health and wellness services. Student clients that are supported by the UHS Counseling Center are diverse across various ethnic, national, socioeconomic and religious backgrounds, and across diverse gender identities and sexual orientations. Center staff provide individual intervention and brief consultations to determine treatment needs and options; emergency/crisis intervention; assistance with accessing care off-campus resources; as well as outreach events and workshops.

Responsibilities: This position is to primarily contribute clinical expertise in the area of supervision and assessment training for counseling psychology doctoral students engaging in practicum at the University Health Services Counseling Center and other clinical fieldwork. Therefore, teaching assignments will primarily include the practicum/internship seminar courses and clinical assessment courses. However, teaching assignments may vary depending on the needs of the department. This position will also contribute to the University Health Services Counseling Center by providing doctoral supervision to approximately 4 to 6 counseling psychology Ph.D. practicum students during their fall and spring practicum placements.

Requirements:

  • Doctorate in Counseling or School Psychology or related field, preferably from an APA accredited Counseling Psychology program and master’s degree from an accredited Counseling program or closely related field.
  • Licensed or license eligible as a Licensed Psychologist/Health Services Provider in Massachusetts.
  • Strong preference will be given to candidates who have experience in conducting clinical supervision and teaching clinically focused courses.
