Endowed Chair in Sport Leadership and Administration

The University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a tenured professor to serve in the newly created Dr. J. Keith Motley Chair for Sports Leadership & Administration. We seek an individual with a distinguished scholarly, research, and teaching record and renown in the sport leadership or sport management field. Candidates will have an earned doctorate, will have held a tenured position at another institution (preferably at the rank of professor), will have a sustained record of publishing in top sport leadership or sport management journals, program management experience, and proven teaching excellence at all levels.

The position may begin on September 1, 2019. The Chair will be tasked with implementing a long-term strategic vision for the development and growth of the BA in Sport Leadership and Administration program in order to elevate the program to national prominence. The program places particular emphasis on enhancing equity, diversity, and an inclusive environment in the sport industry; expanding the career-readiness of students through experiential learning; and advising and mentoring students in close collaboration with sport industry leaders and organizations.  The successful candidate will demonstrate understanding of the importance of positive youth development through sport engagement and leadership, particularly in marginalized communities and communities of color.

The candidate must be willing to build and maintain relationships with faculty, students, administration, the university community, and external partners. The Endowed Chair was created through a gift from a generous corporate donor who is specifically committed to building diversity, equity, and inclusion within the sport industry. Successful candidates are expected to show evidence of this commitment through their scholarship, teaching, and service. The endowment will fund a portion of the compensation of the faculty position, as well as providing support for research, travel, and program-building. The terms of employment of the Chair will be commensurate with experience and standing.

To apply, candidates must upload a cover letter outlining their specific interest and experience relevant to the position, a curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and the names and contact information for three references. Candidate review will begin in January, 2019, and will continue until the position is filled.
