General Summary: 

The Senior Associate Director of Student Financial Aid will provide support and leadership for the Office of Financial Aid Services with emphasis on compliance with federal and state financial aid regulations. The incumbent will lead the office in policy and procedure development, fund management and inter-departmental relations. The Senior Associate Director is responsible for all enrollment monitoring related functions; including, return of fund calculations and satisfactory academic progress. The Senior Associate Director is also responsible for overseeing the enrollment and student application functions of Financial Aid Services; and will supervise and train financial aid staff to ensure accurate and consistent information dissemination to students, families, external agencies and other university offices.   

Examples of Duties: 

  • Provide support and leadership for the Office of Financial Aid Services with emphasis on compliance with federal and state financial aid regulations, work independently, and in collaboration with the director in establishing policies and procedures governing the awarding and distribution of financial aid resources with emphasis on federal and state compliance;
  • Oversee all enrollment and satisfactory academic progress related activities; and retention specialists, as well as other staff, to ensure accurate and consistent financial aid information dissemination to students, families, external agencies, and other university offices;
  • Oversee all satisfactory academic progress related activities to ensure compliance with federal and state rules and regulations;
  • Responsible for the coordination of all activities related to enrollment; responsible for Federal Return of Title IV fund calculations and state refund calculations; perform calculations within designated timeframes, create, implement and review procedures to ensure continued compliance, perform a second check on calculations performed by other staff members;
  • Manage the student financial aid budget and disbursement of federal, state and institutional funds; collaborate with the Division of Administration and Finance including the Budget Office and Controller’s Office.
  • Work closely with the Financial Aid Services team and Director in designing and implementing procedures that maintain compliance and program integrity while supporting enhanced customer service;
  • Serve as the financial aid liaison for student enrollment issues presented by the Provost’s office, University Advising, and the Registrar’s Office; advocate on behalf of Financial Aid Services to ensure other offices work towards compliance.
  • Participate in annual and weekly packaging and budgeting preparation and review.
  • Work with the Enrollment Management marketing team to create materials and publications used to communicate financial aid policies to students and families; perform annual review of the financial aid website and work with the marketing team to update content;
  • Counsel students and families in all aspects of the financial aid process;
  • Represent the Student Financial Aid Services office on University committees, as assigned;
  • Present to university audiences and at events, as needed;
  • Participate in meetings, workshops and conferences to keep abreast of local, regional and national financial aid policies;
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of five-seven (5-7) years of progressively responsible experience in the administration of financial aid programs in a high volume financial aid office required.  Demonstrated record of successful leadership and supervisory experience required.  Extensive and expert knowledge of state and federal financial aid regulations, eligibility guidelines, awarding and reporting, required.  Ability to interpret and apply complex federal regulations required.  Proven experience with integrated information systems, such as PeopleSoft or other appropriate student information systems in developing and implementing financial aid and scholarship programs and services preferred.  Experience identifying issues and appropriately addressing concerns with a diverse audience required.  Ability to work weekends and/or evening hours, as needed, and the ability to travel locally and regionally as needed.
