The Department of Chemistry at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Inorganic Chemistry with a strong record of experimental research. Applicants must have a PhD in chemistry, or a related scientific field, with an established research track record in organometallic catalysis or bio-inorganic systems preferred. The successful candidate is expected to establish a highly productive, externally-funded experimental research program and, thus, must demonstrate the ability to establish an independent research focus. Candidates whose scientific interests complement those of existing faculty within the Department and College, and who can develop cross-disciplinary collaborations, are strongly preferred. Strong dedication to undergraduate and graduate teaching is also required and must be reflective of a deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Expected start date is September 1, 2021.
The Department offers BA, ACS-accredited BS, MS, and PhD degrees in chemistry and a BS degree in biochemistry, offered jointly with the Biology Department. The doctoral program includes tracks in the traditional areas of chemistry, plus a signature track in Green Chemistry. Chemistry faculty also participate in college-wide interdisciplinary graduate PhD programs in computational science and integrative biosciences. The Department currently has eleven tenure-track and tenured faculty members. The newly appointed faculty member will be assigned a laboratory space in the recently opened Integrated Science Complex (ISC), which also houses the Department’s shared instrument facilities. Candidates should submit (i) a cover letter detailing how their proposed experimental work would complement existing research within the Department and College, (ii) a curriculum vitae, (iii) a detailed statement of research plans (3-5 pages), (iv) a statement of teaching philosophy along with a description of teaching experience and preferred teaching area(s), and (v) a diversity statement that reflects the candidates’s experience and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
