 FULL TIME LECTURER

NON-TENURE TRACK

The Latin American and Iberian Studies Department at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer to serve as the DIRECTOR OF PORTUGUESE AND SPANISH LANGUAGE PROGRAMS beginning September 1, 2020.  The Department is a multidisciplinary unit composed of Latin American Studies, Translation Studies, and Literature and Cultural Studies. The unit includes a Language Program composed of Elementary and Intermediate Portuguese and Spanish courses.

We seek an experienced academic professional with a strong desire to lead in the innovation and transformation of the Portuguese and Spanish language curriculum.  Applicants should have a solid commitment to move towards a content-based curricular design in all language courses and a strong interest in exploring the integration of cultural competence into the language curriculum.

The Director will be in charge of all aspects of the language programs in Portuguese and Spanish, including curricular development, course preparation and management, supervising instructors, and some administrative tasks.  The teaching duties are four language classes per academic year.  This is a full-time benefited position made on an academic-year basis.

Academic Qualifications: Master’s degree required, doctorate preferred, in an appropriate academic field. Native or near native proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, and English.  Knowledge of instructional technology preferred.
