The Assistant Director for Undergraduate Admissions is responsible for attracting students to the University through traditional means of visits and attendance at college fairs and/or through the development of special projects that bring students to the campus. The incumbent will be responsible for building strong relations with personnel at high schools who influence the student’s decision making process; monitoring prospects and applications from assigned geo-territory; creating and implementing strategies to convert prospects to enrolled students; reviewing and rendering admission decisions; conducting information sessions; and providing career and enrollment counseling. The Assistant Director will also be assigned as a liaison to one of the undergraduate colleges within the university and is required to involve the college in recruitment activities, as well as acquire and maintain demonstrated in-depth knowledge of curriculum changes, faculty expertise, research initiatives and opportunities for student involvement; and will work to increase applications and yield of admitted students.
Examples of Duties:
- Responsible for attracting students to the University through traditional means of visits and attendance at college fairs and/or through the development of special projects that bring students to the campus; build relationships with personnel at high schools who influence the student’s decision making process;
- Conduct recruiting activities, which include scheduling visits and developing partnerships with high schools, community colleges and/or community agencies; plan and coordinate on-campus promotional events and activities for designated applicant pool; monitor and track off-campus recruitment activities for first-year students;
- Monitor prospects and applications from assigned geo-territory; create and implement strategies to convert prospects to enrolled students;
- Review admission applications and render admission decisions of domestic applications;
- Conduct interviews and information sessions and provide career and enrollment counseling to various groups of students;
- Serve as the liaison between Undergraduate Admissions and one or more college(s)/program(s), including but not limited to recruitment activities; acquiring and maintaining an in-depth knowledge of curriculum changes, faculty expertise, research initiatives and opportunities for student involvement;
- Work to increase applications and yield of admitted students and work to meet established enrollment goals for targeted application pools;
- Order and track recruitment materials to ensure consistent levels throughout the travel season;
- Maintain statistical data on assigned applicant pool and oversee decision activities of that pool; monitor participants’ progress of assigned pool by maintaining contact with appropriate campus faculty and/or staff;
- Participate on committees, which impact designated applicant pool(s);
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one-three years in post-secondary administration, counseling or recruiting required. The incumbent is required to have and maintain throughout the duration of employment in this position a valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation to travel throughout identified recruitment territory. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as well as off-campus recruiting events, is required.
- Prior admissions experience in recruitment, application reading and/or counseling prospective students preferred;
- Demonstrated experience working with a diverse group of students and various publics preferred.
